The diet is said to have been created by the Sacred Heart Memorial Hospital that would help patients to lose weight quickly before undergoing certain surgical procedures. Beef and tomatoes should be consumed in large quantities, plus at least one serving of soup on day five. Day six involves at least one serving of the soup, along with beef and vegetables. With the grapefruit diet you can lose up to 12 pounds in 10 days. Introduced in 1930 by Kelly D. Brownell, PhD, this diet was designed to jumpstart an entire weight loss program.
